“Though your teen may struggle he/she will not fall, for our Lord upholds him
with his hand.” Psalm 31:24
Thank God, it is fall! The temperatures are cooling off as all kids begin going back to school, to friends and teachers. At Laurel House a routine will settle in. Donna is wonderful about helping this schedule to make life easier for our girls.
As I was shopping the other day, I heard a voice say, “Nadene!” As I turned around, one of our former students fell into my arms. It was such a thrill to see her, and hear how well she is doing. She had finished college and was going to start her masters program this fall in Oregon. She told me how she thought Laurel House had not only saved her life, but helped her get to where she is today! Praise the Lord! We wish Ann well and continue to pray for her.
If you as parents have not started your fall school routine, please do so now. Write down and post the rules. You may need more than one list depending on the ages of your children. Make a chore list, and make sure it is checked off daily. The girls are used to following them at Laurel House. Some of them have been awakened at midnight to come and complete or “do-over” their chores. It works and teaches responsibility at the same time. Sit down and eat evening meals together several nights a week. It is amazing what they will tell you when they think you are interested and listening. Love them unconditionally. They are a close part of your life for such a short time!
God bless each of you!
